Ekos Optical Trains

Why Optical Trains Matter

Describe your equipment once. Every Ekos module uses it.
1
Image with several cameras at once
One mount Primary train Capturing M42 Secondary train Capturing M42
Every camera gets its own train. Put two telescopes on one mount and each one captures with its own camera, filters and focuser, at the same time.
2
Focus without disturbing guiding
Autofocus running, focuser moving Autofocus complete Separate guide scope Guiding keeps running Off-axis guider Guiding paused Guiding resumed
A separate guide scope has its own train, so the main focuser never touches it and guiding keeps running. With an OAG the focuser is in the guide train too, so Ekos pauses guiding while it focuses.
3
Automation that knows your gear
Primary train, dust cap + flat panel Sequence: Darks, then flats Dust cap closed for you Dark 1 of 20, 300 s Flat panel lit for you Flat 1 of 30, L filter Guide train, no cap or panel ! Ekos asks you OK Cover the telescope in order to take a dark exposure. Cover the telescope with an evenly illuminated light source.
For darks, Ekos closes the dust cap on its own. For flats, it closes the cap and switches on the flat panel. If a train has neither, like a guide scope, Ekos knows and asks you to cover it.
